Transformers...
Transformers was always one of my favorite cartoons when I was little. I’ve always been crazy about cars. I wanted to be a garbage man for a while because they roe around on big trucks. My mother potty-trained me as I sat watching Dukes of Hazzard and Knight Rider. Who knows how many Hot Wheels I had? But, with Transformers, the cars and trucks turned into robots a guy could hang out with. How cool is that!
I married into a family that really likes transformers, too. My father-in-law and two of my brother-in-laws work for power companies...and they really like it. IT’s kinda weird how much they enjoy it, but pretty cool. While driving down the road with my father-in-law, he’ll often point out power lines and transformers. The transformers convert power from one intensity to another...I think. Not my cup of tea, but it is great to see how passionate they are about their work.
Judith and I are also into transformers...but of a different variety. We want to be transformers. I don’t mean I want to be a big semi-truck like Optimus Prime, as cool as that may be (I might prefer sideswipe from the second of the modern Transformer movies because he’s the new Corvette concept car). What I mean is that we want to be people that God uses to transform those around us as He transforms us through His Word, his Spirit, and others. That is what God is all about, transforming lives. He made a perfect creation, but people messed it up. The Bible is the story of how He is transforming the world into what it was created to be. Through many leaders, He began to transform a nation. Through His only Son He brought transformation for the world. Because of Jesus and by the Holy Spirit, we get to partner with God to transform this world. That’s what we want to do. That’s what gets me going. There is nothing like experiencing someone being transformed through God’s work through me. Whether it is from a one on one relationship, a small group, or a larger group, I love to see people transformed. By the grace of God, I am a transformer. There’s nothing like it.
